Ep 4: Parent Energy Rescue ~ How to Recharge When You’re Already Exhausted

If your morning coffee wears off before the school run is even done, or you feel permanently flat, wired, and running on fumes, you are not alone. Parent exhaustion is incredibly common, but constant, bone-deep fatigue isn’t something you just have to accept.

In Episode 4 of The Nature & Nurture Podcast, I’m talking all about parent energy, why so many parents feel chronically depleted, what’s actually going on in the body, and the small, realistic changes that can make a meaningful difference without adding more to your already full plate.

In this episode, I explain why fatigue in parents is so often driven by a combination of blood sugar instability, nutrient gaps, stress hormone overload, and disrupted sleep. Skipping meals, running on coffee, broken nights, and constant mental load all place extra demand on the nervous system and energy pathways, leaving parents feeling wired, irritable, or completely flat.

We explore some of the most common contributors I see in clinic, including low iron, B-vitamin depletion, inadequate protein intake, and low magnesium, all of which play a vital role in energy production and nervous system regulation. Chronic stress and poor sleep compound this further, keeping the body stuck in fight-or-flight mode and burning through energy reserves far too quickly.

From there, I share six gentle, doable strategies parents can start using straight away. These include eating protein before coffee to stabilise blood sugar, choosing gentle movement that creates energy rather than drains it, and building in short “micro-resets” throughout the day to calm the nervous system. We also talk about hydration and mineral support, eating regularly to avoid energy crashes, and letting go of the idea that you need a complete lifestyle overhaul to feel better.

Most importantly, this episode is about reassurance. Feeling exhausted doesn’t mean you’re lazy, weak, or failing at parenting. It means your body is doing its best to keep up with a very full life, and it’s asking for support.
